It can be difficult to know exactly how tall (or short) celebrities are. On TV and movie sets, crews can do clever things with angles to make stars look less vertically challenged. And there are always ways to disguise height differences between couples — just ask 5-foot-7-inch Tom Cruise, who somehow managed to appear a fraction taller than 5-foot-9-inch Katie Holmes for their official wedding pictures.
But some people just don’t care about an inequality in inches. These celebrity couples may have pretty extreme height differences, but they know it’s not the end of the world — or the marriage.
Seth Green (5 feet 4 inches) And Clare Grant (5 feet 7 inches)
There are three inches between actor Seth Green (5 feet 4 inches) and his wife Clare Grant (5 feet 7 inches) — and that’s before Green puts heels on.
The couple met in 2008 and married two years later in Northern California. In an interview with E! Online, Green reportedly said, “I’m five-four. Hey, Rene Russo walked in a ditch when she filmed ‘Freejack’ with Emilio Estevez. The great thing about this business is it’s not about how you look, it’s how they can make you look.”
Chris Bosh (6 feet 11 inches) And Adrienne Williams (4 feet 11 inches)
At 6 feet 11 inches, Miami Heat’s Chris Bosh isn’t the tallest player in the NBA, but he’s a whopping 24 inches taller than his wife Adrienne Williams, who stands at 4 feet 11 inches. The couple have five kids: Trinity, Jackson, Dylan Skye, Lennox Noel and Phoenix Avery — time will tell whether they take after Mom or Dad in the height department.
Reese Witherspoon (5 feet 2 inches) And Jim Toth (6 feet 1 inch)
Reese Witherspoon has a history of dating (or marrying) men who are much taller than she is, but that’s not too difficult — the “Big Little Lies” star is only 5 feet 2 inches tall. Her first husband, actor Ryan Phillipe, is over 6 feet tall, and her second husband, Jim Toth, towers 11 inches over his wife at 6 feet 1 inch.
In November 2008, Witherspoon revealed that she’s had to use some creative ways to make up for her lack of height on movie sets, such as on “Four Christmases” with Vince Vaughn, who’s 6 feet 5 inches.
“I stood on a lot of boxes and they had to build ramps that were about the same size as where I should be,” she said, according to Digital Spy. “It was a challenge, especially the kissing scenes … And he had to pick me up for half the dancing. He’s actually holding me in the air so we can stay in the same frame.”
Tina Fey (5 feet 4 inches) and Jeff Richmond (5 feet 2 inches)
Tina Fey played war correspondent Kim Barker in the 2016 movie “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,” based on Barker’s book “The Taliban Shuffle.” Fey expressed a desire to be as tall as Barker, saying, per SheKnows, “My only regret is that I can’t pull off playing Kim at 5 feet 10 inches.”
In the book, Kim describes how she towered over powerful men who would proposition her and grab her butt. I’d love to portray that, but I’m only 5 feet 4 inches.” However, Fey does tower over her husband, composer Jeff Richmond, who is 5 feet 2 inches tall.
Kristen Bell (5 feet 1 inch) And Dax Shepard (6 feet 3 inches)
There’s over a foot between celeb couple Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard. At 5 feet 1 inch, Bell is a small but mighty force in Tinseltown. Meanwhile, husband of six years Shepard, at 6 feet 3 inches, is one of the tallest actors in Hollywood. In a recent Instagram post, Bell revealed that she wanted to get their bathroom vanities redesigned at different heights to make the space comfortable for both of them.
Will Smith (6 feet 2 inches) And Jada Pinkett Smith (5 feet)
The huge height difference between Will Smith (6 feet 2 inches) and Jada Pinkett Smith (5 feet) is of no concern to the married couple. But it was a different story for the producers of sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” who told Jada in 1994 she was too short to play Will’s girlfriend on the show. Fast-forward to today and they have one of the longest-lasting celebrity marriages (22 years) and have two kids together, Jaden (born 1998) and Willow (born 2000).
Natalie Portman (5 feet 3 inches) And Benjamin Millepied (5 feet 10 inches)
Petite actor Natalie Portman married French dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied in 2012. They met on the set of Portman’s 2010 movie, “Black Swan,” when Millepied choreographed her ballet moves. There are seven inches between their heights — and that’s when he’s not standing en pointe.
LeBron James (6 feet 6 inches) And Savannah Brinson (5 feet 7 inches)
There’s almost a full foot between NBA’s LeBron James (6 feet 6 inches) and Savannah Brinson (5 feet 7 inches). Brinson definitely can’t be classed as “short,” but next to her husband of six years, she looks on the petite side. The couple has been together since high school and have three children, LeBron “Bronny” James Jr., 15, Bryce Maximus James, 12, and Zhuri James, 5.
Eniko Parrish (5 feet 7 inches) And Kevin Hart (5 feet 4 inches)
Kevin Hart’s short stature has made him the butt of many on-screen jokes in movies like “Think Like a Man,” “About Last Night” and “Ride Along.” But Hart told Oprah Winfrey in 2014 that it wasn’t an issue for him. “This is it. This is what I was given,” he said. “This is my playing cards. If we were playing poker, I’ve got to make this hand work. This is it for me. And this is what I’m going to ride out. So how do you not embrace it?” Hart married Eniko Parrish, who is three inches taller than him, in 2016, and it was recently revealed that they are expecting their second child together.
Shakira (5 feet 2 inches) And Gerard Pique (6 feet 4 inches)
Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique is a whopping 14 inches taller than pop icon Shakira. The couple fell in love after meeting on the set of Shakira’s “Waka Waka” video in 2010. They have two kids, Milan and Sasha, but don’t appear to have any plans to marry.
“I don’t want him to see me as the wife. I’d rather him see me as his girlfriend,” Shakira said during an interview with “60 Minutes” in January.
Jamie Cullum (5 feet 3 inches) And Sophie Dahl (6 feet)
One of the biggest height differences in the celebrity world — at least where the woman is taller than the man — is between Sophie Dahl and Jamie Cullum.
Former model Dahl towers over her husband, particularly when she wears heels. In 2019, Cullum told British TV host Jonathan Ross that the title of his latest album (“Taller”) was a “metaphor” for his relationship with Dahl. He said he based the album around how he “managed to completely break one of the laws of the universe by marrying a taller woman” and revealed that he initially thought he had no chance with Dahl as he assumed “everyone who met her would fall in love with her.”
The couple have two kids, Lyra (born in 2011) and Margot (born in 2013).
Mila Kunis (5 feet 4 inches) And Ashton Kutcher (6 feet 2 inches)
Mila Kunis might look shorter than average, but that’s probably only because her husband, Ashton Kutcher, is super tall. He measures in at 6 feet 2 inches, while Kunis is 5 feet 4 inches. The couple were friends for a long time — they starred on “That ’70s Show” together — before getting together and tying the knot in 2015.
Nicole Kidman (5 feet 11 inches) And Keith Urban (5 feet 10 inches)
Nicole Kidman is only one inch taller than her husband Keith Urban, but it seems like a lot more when she wears heels on the red carpet. However, Urban isn’t as short as Kidman’s first husband: Tom Cruise is 5 feet 7 inches. In 2015, at an awards dinner, Kidman gave advice to women everywhere that applies both mentally and physically: “Stand tall and never, ever apologize for it.”
Chris Hemsworth (6 feet 3 inches) And Elsa Pataky (5 feet 3 inches)
Only a tall man could play Marvel’s Thor, the God of Thunder, so Chris Hemsworth’s 6-foot-3-inch frame was perfect. The Aussie actor stands an entire foot above his wife, fellow actor Elsa Pataky. The couple married in 2010 and have three kids together: India Rose, Tristan and Sasha.
Ashley Tisdale (5 feet 3 inches) And Christopher French (6 feet 4 inches)
Ashley Tisdale, who played Maddie Fitzpatrick in the Disney Channel series “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” and went on to appear in “High School Musical,” married Christopher French in 2014. “Best day of my life!” the actor wrote on her Instagram page alongside pictures from the big day. Tisdale is 5 feet 3 inches tall, while her husband is more than a foot taller.
Freddie Prinze Jr. (6 feet 1 inch) And Sarah Michelle Gellar (5 feet 3 inches)
There’s a significant height difference between long-term celeb couple Freddie Prinze Jr. (6 feet 1 inch) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (5 feet 3 inches), who tend to keep out of the public eye these days. After meeting on the set of “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” they married in 2002 and have two children: Charlotte, born in 2009, and Rocky, born in 2012.
Ariel Winter (5 feel 1 inch) And Luke Benward (6 feet 2 inches)
Ariel Winter, best known for her role as Alex Dunphy in ABC’s hit sitcom “Modern Family,” started dating Luke Benward in early 2020 following her split from Levi Meaden. There’s a pretty significant height difference between the two: Winter is 5 feet 1 inch and Benward is 6 feet 2 inches.
Sophie Turner (5 feet 7 inches) And Joe Jonas (5 feet 6 inches)
Another famous couple with a one-inch height difference is “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner and pop-star Joe Jonas, and it’s Turner who’s the taller of the two. They married in Las Vegas in May 2019 and in February 2020, it was reported that their first child was on the way.
Jay Cutler (6 feet 3 inches) And Kristin Cavallari (5 feet 3 inches)
Reality TV star Kristin Cavallari and her husband Jay Cutler have a 12-inch height difference. Cavallari is 5 feet 3 inches, while former footballer Cutler stands 6 feet 3 inches tall. The couple married in 2013 and have three kids, Camden (born 2012), Jaxon (born 2014) and Saylor (born 2015).
Sacha Baron Cohen (6 feet 3 inches) And Isla Fisher (5 feet 2 inches)
Actress Isla Fisher once joked how the height difference between her husband, comedian/actor Sacha Baron Cohen, and herself — she is 5 feet 2 inches while he is a statuesque 6 feet 3 inches — made her look like “a circus freak.” The couple welcomed baby Olive in October 2007 and tied the knot in 2010. Second daughter Elula Lottie Miriam arrived five months after the wedding.
Rod Stewart (5 feet 10 inches) And Penny Lancaster (6 feet 1 inch)
Every photo of Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster shows TV presenter Lancaster towering over her pop-star hubby. She’s 6 feet 1 inch tall and no stranger to high heels, which makes her dwarf Stewart’s 5-foot-10-inch physique even more. The couple started dating in 1999 and got married in 2007 in Portofino, Italy. They have two sons, Alastair (born 2005) and Aiden (born 2011).
Jason Momoa (6 feet 4 inches) And Lisa Bonet (5 feet 2 inches)
Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet aren’t only a celebrity couple with a big age gap (Momoa is 12 years younger than Bonet). There’s also a significant height difference between them — Momoa is 14 inches taller than Bonet. The “Aquaman” star admired his wife of two years from afar for a long time — he confessed to Esquire that he developed a crush on her when he was only 8 years old.
Jessica Simpson (5 feet 3 inches) And Eric Johnson (6 feet 3 inches)
Former pop star Jessica Simpson married football player Eric Johnson in 2014 and they have three kids together, Maxwell (born 2012), Ace (born 2013) and Birdie (born 2019). It’s perhaps no surprise that former NFL tight end Johnson is 6 feet 3 inches tall — around the average height for a player in his position, according to SportsRec. This makes Johnson an entire foot taller than his famous wife, who is 5 feet 3 inches tall.
Daniel Radcliffe (5 feet 4 inches) And Erin Darke (5 feet 6 inches)
At 5 feet 4 inches, “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe is five inches shorter than the average U.S. male, based on data from a National Center for Health Statistics report published in December 2018. Meanwhile, his partner Erin Darke is two inches taller than the average woman. The couple met in 2013 on the set of drama film “Kill Your Darlings.”
